Time to begin again....

wow...

it has been a long time since I updated this blog, I am sure no one is reading anymore, why would they? there has been no new material in quite sometime, so my dear readers, if you happen to be reading this, I apologize, life caught up with me, and my chronic pain, FMS,head cold that turned into an ear and sinus infection and a pesky lump that suddenly decided to grow under my right nipple to the size of a half dollar in two months have kept me quite busy. (surgery to remove and biopsy the lump is scheduled on the 3oth, I will let you all know what happens, and keep your fingers crossed for me) I also helped my Friend and Ex, Desta, open her second tattoo and piercing shop, Adorn East by doing some design work for her ad's and flyers and making phone calls and such. So needless to say I have been busy. and i really have no other excuses... I will try to not let this lapse become a habit...

more tomorrow, i may post a couple of movie reviews and an outline of do's and dont's for couples with a partner in chronic pain (henceforth refered to as CWPCP) heh heh i like random acronyms with the scent of uselessness....

I now go to try to fall asleep to the movie "28 weeks later"

Feeling lucky

So I have gotten some feedback from a number of people about the open letter about FMS, and i have to say i am so fucking lucky to have the friends and family I have around me. It makes a difference being able to explain to people what i am going through and have them understand in a visceral way what that really means. thank you all very very much. I like being able to be comfortable knowing that i am understood by my loved ones. and It is so nice to feel that kind of loving support. I am looking forward to my vacation at the end of this month, me and my SO are going to Vegas for the Association Of Professional Piercers Convention to help a friend out with their jewelry booth and to celebrate our 4 year anniversary which is on the 8th right after the conference, so I will be in Las Vegas for a week and loving it! It has been quite a while since I was able to get out of town for a vacation like this and it is ALWAYS fun to do Vegas with a whole bunch of the pierced and tattooed freaks that i call my friends... nothing like sin city with the heavily modified crowd! YAY! I will be taking lots of pictures and will be sure to post them so you all can see exactly what i mean!.... anyways... i am getting sleepy... so i am off to bed. thanks for reading.. thanks for sharing.. and most of all thank you all for being my friends....

Spoon Theory

To go along with the last post and to give you all a better idea of what it is like to have Fibromyalgia I was sent this link from a friend of mine and it really applies to FMS as well as to Lupus which I believe it what the author is suffering from. It explains exactly how I have to go through my day and designate how much energy I have to spread between all of my tasks each day... thanks again for reading...

The Spoon Theory
My best friend and I were in the diner, talking. As usual, it was very late and we were eating French fries with gravy. Like normal girls our age, we spent a lot of time in the diner while in college, and most of the time we spent talking about boys, music or trivial things, that seemed very important at the time. We never got serious about anything in particular and spent most of our time laughing. [click the link to read more]

Fibromyalgia. - An open letter to my friends and loved ones.

I wanted to write a letter to explain to all of my friends and loved ones what Fibromyalgia is like and what I go through on a day-to-day basis. This is also useful if you have someone else in your life that is suffering from FMS. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Fibromyalgia isn't all in my head, and it isn't contagious. It doesn't turn into anything serious and nobody ever died from fibromyalgia though they might have wished they could on really awful days. I can't control how often I feel good or how often I feel terrible. If you want to read articles about fibromyalgia I can show you some that I think are good. If you just want to learn as we go along, that's fine too. This is definitely going to be a process. The first step is for you to believe that there is an illness called fibromyalgia and that I have it. This may sound simple, but when you hear about some of the symptoms I don't want you to think I'm making this up.

Fibromyalgia is a high maintenance condition with lots and lots of different kinds of symptoms. There's no way to just take a pill to make it go away, even for a little while. Sometimes a certain medication can make some of my symptoms more bearable. That's about the best I can hope for. Sometimes I can take a lot of medication and still not feel any better. That's just the way it goes.

There's no cure for fibromyalgia. It won't just go away. If I am functioning normally, I am having a good day. This doesn't mean I'm getting better, because I suffer from chronic pain and fatigue for which there is no cure. I can have good days, weeks, or even months. But a morning can suddenly turn into a terrible afternoon. I get a Feeling like someone has pulled out a plug and all my energy has just gone out of my body. I may get more irritable before these flares, and suddenly get more sensitive to noise, or just collapse from deadening fatigue. Other times there may be no warning, I may just suddenly feel awful. I can't warn you when this is likely to happen, because there isn't any way for me to know. Sometimes this is a real bummer and I'm sorry.

Fibromyalgics have a different kind of pain that is hard to treat. It is not caused by inflammation like an injury. It is not a constantly in one place like a broken bone. It moves around my body daily and hourly and changes in severity and type. Sometimes it is dull and sometimes it is cramping or prickly. Sometimes it's jabbing and excruciating. If Eskimos have a hundred words for snow, Fibromyalgics should have them for pain. Sometimes I just hurt all over.

Besides pain we have muscle stiffness, which is worse in the mornings Some times when I get up out of a chair I feel like I'm ninety years old. I may ask you to pull me up. I'm creaky and I'm klutzy, trip over things no one can see, and I bump into the person I'm walking with and I drop things and spill things because my fingers are stiff I or my coordination is off. I just don't seem to connect the way I should. Hand-eye, foot-eye coordination; it's all off. I walk slowly up and down stairs because I'm stiff and I'm afraid I might fall.

Because I feel badly most of the time I am always pushing myself, and sometimes I push myself too hard. "When I do this, I pay the price. Sometimes I can summon the strength to do something special, but I will usually have to rest for a few days afterwards because my body can only make so much energy. I pay a big price for overdoing it, but sometimes I have to. I know it's hard for you to understand why I can do one thing and not another. It's important for you to believe me, and trust me about this. My limitations like my pain and my other symptoms are invisible but they are there.

Another symptom I have is problems with memory and concentration, which is called fibrofog. Short-term memory is the worst! I am constantly looking for things I have no idea where I put, I walk into rooms and have no idea why. Casualties are my keys, which are always lost, my list of errands, which I write up and leave on the counter when I go out. Even if I put notes around to remind myself normal for fibromyaglics most of us are frightened that we are getting Alzheimer's.

I mentioned my sensitivities earlier and I need to talk about them again. It's more like intolerance to everything. To noise, especially certain sounds like the television, or shrill noises. To bright lights, to fluorescent lights. To smells like fish or some chemicals, or fragrance or perfume. I also have a problem with heat and with cold. It sounds like I'm never happy but that isn't it. These things make me physically ill. They stress me out and make my pain worse, and I get exhausted. Sometimes I just need to get away from something, I just don't know how to say it. I know that sometimes this means I will have to go outside, or out to the car, or home to sit alone, and that's really all right. Sometimes when I feel lousy I just want to be by myself.

When I'm like this there's nothing you can do to make me feel better, so it's just best to let me be or offer generalized comfort and love.

I have problems sleeping. Sometimes I get really restless and wake up and can't get back to sleep. Other times I fall into bed and sleep for fourteen hours. I'm sure that's confusing to be around, and I know there are times when my tossing and turning and getting up and down to go to the bathroom disturbs you. can talk about solutions to this.

All these symptoms and the chemicals in my brain can make me depressed, as you'd imagine. I get angry and frustrated and I have mood swings. Sometimes I know I'm being unreasonable but I can't admit it. Sometimes I just want to pull the covers over my head and stay in bed. These emotions are all very strong and powerful. I know this is a very hard thing about being with me. Every time you put up with me when I'm in one of my moods, secretly I'm so grateful. I can't always admit it at the time, but I'm admitting it now.

I have other symptoms like irritable bowel and bladder pain that will take their toll on my physical intimacies. Some of these symptoms are embarrassing and hard to talk about but I promise to try. I hope that you will have the patience to see me through these things.

I have made a promise to myself and now I am making it to you. I will set aside time for us to be close. During that time we will not talk about my illness. We both need time to get away from its demands. Though I may not show it always I love you a million times more for standing by me. Having to slow down physically and having to get rid of unnecessary stresses will make our relationship stronger.

This is just an overview of what I go through on a day-to-day basis, Please take the time to realize how some of this may apply to your friendship or relationship with me and know that I am trying to find the best way to relate and interact with all of you.

Filipino Man Nailed To Cross During Lenten Ceremony
Featured (04/06/2007)

The Lenten ritual is opposed by religious leaders in the Philippines -- Southeast Asia's largest predominantly Roman Catholic nation. But it has persisted to become one of the country's most-awaited summer attractions in San Fernando City's San Pedro Cutud village.

The devotees' palms and feet were attached to wooden crosses with 4-inch nails soaked in alcohol to prevent infection after a nearly mile-long walk to the mound, each carrying a wooden cross on their backs.

changing formats a bit,,,

Ok, well i am going to be doing some changing of formats over the next few days...

my beta testing and setting up of this blog has been going well so I am going to move to my new format and layout over the next week or so... one of the first changes is that my posts here are going to be much more about me writing and discussing things and I will tell you all when to check out my "Internet Confetti" page ( there is a link to it under my profile info in the sidebar) That is where I will be posting the internet clips / videos and links and pages that I find interesting and/or funny, but that I really don't have much to say about... I am going to be using this space to devote myself to writing more about my life and the things that interest me. this blog is not going to be theme less for much longer! I really do have stuff to say, so now that I kind of have a rhythm going, I will start to try and continue it, but in a much more personal and sometimes lengthy way.

thank you for your patience, and thank to the few of you who are reading this blog on a regular basis. Go and tell your friends... post the link on MySpace Page... tell people that you found something interesting here, http://purrv23.blogspot.com (when you do, or even when you didn't I am not picky :P ) I am going to start promoting it in earnest now, ( I know, who is Earnest?) and before too much longer you will see some regular video PodCasting here... ok... thats enough for now....

Symptoms of Inner Peace

A dear friend sent this to me during a chat session when I was describing to her how I was feeling these days and what my general energy was like.

It fits. (for the most part)

Symptoms of Inner Peace

  • A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experience
  • An unmistakable ability to enjoy the moment
  • A loss of interest in judging other people
  • A loss of interest in judging self
  • A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others
  • An inability to worry (this is a very serious symptom!)
  • Frequent overwhelming episodes of appreciation
  • Frequent acts of smiling
  • An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than to make them happen
  • An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

Something to strive for, don't you think?

for those of you who are familiar with "the Show" and Ze Frank, you undoubtedly feel the same.. How ever it was an amazing online experiment in shared media conversation, where the character took his cue's from his audience and created a online conversation in the form of a daily video blog.

He made me laugh, and cry and get mad about current events. He is probably one of the reasons I started this blog and that I head out into the web each day to see what I can see and what other people are seeing and doing and talking about...

The shows year long archives will be available at The Show and if you need more of an explanation of what the whole project was about, or if you are completely lost in reading this post, go check out the article in the LA times about his experiment...

Thrown out of Starbucks for being homeless?

An elderly woman was asked to leave a Starbucks because its employees assumed she was homeless. apparently the homeless are not allowed to drink the coffee they purchase there in Glen Ellyn, Ill.

The 70-year-old Lisle woman was kicked out of the Starbucks in downtown Glen Ellyn a few weeks ago. She claims it was because employees mistook her as a homeless person, part of a purge the store waged to mollify customers who complained that the coffee shop was overrun with the homeless.

Grant Robinson : Montage-a-google launcher

Montage-a-google is a simple web-based app that uses Google's image search to generate a large gridded montage of images based on keywords (search terms) entered by the user. Not only an interesting way of browsing the net, it can also be used to create desktop pictures or even posters (see examples below - more coming soon).
I of course started using search terms like "booty" and "chronic" but "shibari" revealed a pretty cool montage, than you can either click on the thumbnails to see the original pictures.. or take a snapshot of the full montage and import it into photoshop and create cool desktop backgrounds from it..

Lightning on Demand

I found a great page about a group of scientists and engineers trying to build a lightning laboratory out in the nevada desert somewhere

Lightning On Demand

Lightning On Demand is a collaboration of engineers, artists, scientists and machinists. Our main objective is to develop an experimental facility suitable for the study of natural electrical phenomena.

The design for the Nevada Lightning Laboratory features a phased pair of Tesla Coils, 122 feet tall. The 8 megawatt twin coils will be capable of generating electrical discharges several hundred feet in length, with the goal of re-creating the essential components of natural lightning in a laboratory environment.

Sounds amazing! here is a picture of the conceptual drawing of the laboratory... and they are talking about having shielded observation areas inside of each of the top electrodes of the twin giant Tesla coils....

I want to go inside and see a lightning storm up close....!!!!

Gps and Google Earth

ever since i can remember first reading about gps driving systems and mapping systems and geocaching i have been craving one badly... but now i have found someones cooler than god solution for a do it yourself gps solution that is totally configurable solution..

GPS & Google Earth Solution - Cost-effective GPS mapping in real time

I have been doing a lot of exploring and surveying in the desert recently, and have been trying to find the right GPS mapping solution. The solution I found incorporated stuff I already had (laptop and GPS) with the help of some excellent, nearly free software. The best part is that it works even better than the $900 in-car GPS solutions as it uses always up-to-date satellite data, and is easily sharable.

Basically you run Google Earth and use some great donation-ware to link it in real time to a GPS. This means that your mapping software and maps worldwide are not only free, but you also get hi-res satellite views and in some cases 3D buildings (in downtown areas). Only a year or so ago this would have cost tens of thousands of dollars in proprietary GPS mapping gear; it would be difficult to share it once done; each map and satellite shot would cost extra; and it would have been an ordeal to get it all loaded up and working properly for each area you wanted to go.

Love-making gets green light from adult stores
You've heard of green cars, green tourism and green weddings. Now Canadians should ready themselves for green sex. For those who like to make love to the soundtrack of the global warming documentary An Inconvenient Truth, Greenpeace has released a list of strategies for "getting it on for the good of the planet," suggesting "you can be a bomb in bed without nuking the planet." TreeHugger, an online magazine edited by Ontario's Michael Graham Richard, has just published a guide on "how to green your sex life."

Bamboo sheets? I want some bamboo sheets! sounds divine... anyways,,, what are your thoughts on green sex or EcoSex? do you think about this when it comes to making the beast with two backs, or three backs, or however it is that you do it? Whats another way we can be good to the planet when we get down? leave some suggestions in the comments....

thinking green today,

Enneagram Relationship Profiles

Growing Relationships:

Enneagram Type Seven (the Enthusiast) (Miss.Allegro)

with

Enneagram Type Nine (The PeaceMaker) (Miss.Ember)

What Each Type Brings to the Relationship

Enneagram Sevens and Nines are one of the most often seen pairings of the types because they bring a good mix of similar and opposite qualities. Fundamentally, Sevens and Nines are both positive outlook types who are optimistic, upbeat, and who prefer to avoid conflicts and negatives in their lives and in their relationship. Both types are friendly, sociable, and generally happy with themselves and with their lives. Neither is typically introspective or brooding, preferring to get on with things rather than to look backward or to stew over failures or disappointments. Both are able to forgive and forget and to make the best of their limitations, whatever they might be. They might be separated physically or have few financial means, but Sevens and Nines can make the best of these circumstances and continue to build their future together. Both tend to be practical, although both can have a romantic streak and a physicality that adds spice to their relationship. Both are also often funny and can make even the most mundane events pleasurable and pleasant. Sevens provide the stimulation, Nines the audience.

On the complementary opposite side, Sevens are more active and self-assertive than Nines; they tend to take initiatives, to make plans, to have multiple interests, and to provide the energy for the couple. Sevens are mentally quick, self-confident, curious, open to new experiences, and resilient when there are setbacks. They bring the fun, sparkle, and sense of adventure. Nines bring a sense of steadiness, support, and acceptance to the relationship. They tend to be more sympathetic and soft hearted than Sevens, as well as more relaxed and undemanding of themselves and their environment, including other people. Nines are also often generous and willing to make personal sacrifices to help others and to make them happy. Their personal simplicity and uncomplicatedness meshes well with the more assertive qualities of the Seven. As long as neither takes advantage of the other, there is a good balance between energy and relaxation in this couple.

Potential Trouble Spots or Issues

One of the main areas for potential problems is the fact that neither Sevens nor Nines are usually adept at working through negative or painful aspects of their lives or of the relationship. Both would prefer everything be kept on the positive side; neither one wants to fall into the possibility of depression or to otherwise cut off their chance for happiness. At most, they will briefly acknowledge a problem or conflict in their relationship by blaming the other: both types tend to become anxious, critical, and edgy when under stress, taking these things out on someone else rather than working through negative feelings themselves. Both types also tend to be blind to their own share of responsibility for how the relationship has deteriorated, including their own contribution to communication problems. Nines tend to collapse in the face of the Seven's angry demands, withdrawing into silence and, eventually, inaction. They become increasingly unable to make sense of the Seven's grievances, and so they become stubborn and shut down further, with occasional outbursts of anger or anxiety, or both.

Of the two types, Sevens are far more equipped to talk about whatever is bothering them than Nines, although this does not mean that Sevens are necessarily more able to face what is really bothering them much less resolve it. Sevens tend to impulsively say whatever comes to mind and to fall into excoriating verbal abuse of the Nine whenever the Seven feels frustrated. Sevens often feel that the Nine is too checked out and unresponsive to them. Nines seem perpetually indecisive, slow, and ineffectual. Sevens' criticisms and outright contempt for the unresponsiveness of the Nine only makes Nines retreat further from them and disengage from the situation. However, Sevens often feel that they cannot help themselves and that honesty demands that they tell the Nine how unhappy they are with them. One of the sunniest and most carefree couples can become one of the most hopelessly tortured if they become unwilling or unable to really talk with each other.

Enneagram Relationship Profiles

Growing Relationships:

Enneagram Type Six (the Loyalist) (Rev.Purrv23)

With

Enneagram Type Seven (the Enthusiast) (Miss.Allegro)

What Each Type Brings to the Relationship

Both Enneagram Sixes and Sevens are mental types, and there can be a great deal of mental stimulation in this pairing. These two types offer many areas in which they reinforce each other, and some areas in which the strengths of one counterbalance the limitations of the other. Sevens are usually entertaining and tend to lift the spirits of Sixes. Both are quick mentally and often have rapier wits: they enjoy bantering with each other, verbally sparring and seeing how absurd or funny they can become as they push each other to more outrageous limits. Sevens are particularly good at generating new ideas while Sixes are particularly good at mastering the practical steps that are necessary to get things done. Sevens help Sixes put fear and limitation into perspective, and sometimes to move beyond them entirely. They thus make effective team members in which the Seven lays out the big picture and gets people excited about new possibilities while the Six moves in with the logistical and tactical know-how, following through with the details. In intimate relationships, the same balance pertains: Sevens are the stimulators, Sixes are the regulators—and they can keep each moving forward by allowing the other to counterbalance their own limitations.

To this visionary-functionary mix, Sixes bring commitment and loyalty to the Seven, often an expertise and groundedness that the Seven comes to trust and rely on implicitly, as well as a strong grip on reality and what can be accomplished within given parameters. Sevens bring a driving sense of optimism and possibility, high energy, a sense of adventure, and fearlessness with regard to failure. They can teach Sixes how to be resilient and how not to fear the future, while Sixes can teach Sevens the difference between optimism and pipedreams.

Potential Trouble Spots or Issues

Despite how well Sixes and Sevens can reinforce each other's strengths when they are healthy, in the average to lower Levels, the picture can shift quickly. Sixes are essentially interested in security and predictability, foreseeing problems and building procedures to prevent future uncertainty. They are aware of limitations and why things cannot be done—or at least done easily. Sevens, by contrast, are about seeking happiness and relief from increasing frustration or anxiety. They are about trying new things, seeing new possibilities and overcoming limitations. They do not want to hear about problems or obstacles: they want things to be done the day before yesterday. Sixes tend to be negative and pessimistic, while Sevens tend to be positive and optimistic.

Sevens are future oriented, while Sixes tend to be aware of the past, of precedents, and the lessons of history that would prevent things from going badly again. Sixes very much want to find someone with whom they can have a long term commitment, Sevens tend to be fearful of long term commitments and enter into them somewhat reluctantly. Sixes tend to feel that Sevens are too hedonistic, selfish, extravagant, and when the chips are down, they wonder if they can be relied on. Will they skip off to someone else or avoid their responsibilities in some form of escapism or addiction? Sevens tend to feel that Sixes are too anxiety ridden, worry too much, and make themselves (and everyone else!) crazy raising every question and objection before trying anything. Sixes oppose everything, at least at first, and get distrustful and suspicious easily. They live a life of limits and rules that Sevens feel are restrictions largely imaginary and self-imposed. In a Six/Seven couple, these two opposing philosophies reflect the very different expectations Sixes and Seven have from life and from a relationship, and unless they can be reconciled, it will be difficult for this couple to remain one.

Growing Relationships:

Enneagram type Six (the Loyalist) (Rev.Purrv)

with

Enneagram type nine (the Peacemaker) (Miss.Ember)

What Each Type Brings to the Relationship

This is one of the most stable and most common relationships. Although

both types are very different, they want rather similar things—security

and predictability (Sixes) and stability

and autonomy (Nines). They both want

their lives to be built on solid, dependable values and for good,

honest work to be rewarded. Both types tend to personify "middle

of the road" values in their time and culture, to be dutiful, respectful

of authority, and to abide by the rule of law. On the other hand,

there is a rebellious streak in Sixes and a counterculture streak

in Nines that allows some of these couples to live on the fringes

of society, to be unusual in their lifestyle and beliefs, to be

free thinkers and unconcerned about conventional values and mores.

More for Sixes and Nines than for most couples, much depends on their belief systems and the quality of their childhood experiences—andthey are looking for a partner who will mirror this, including their own beliefs and reactions. To this mix, there are also complementary differences: Sixes bring a more active mind, questioning and alert to exceptions, to problems, and to safety issues. They can be more skeptical of others and find it more difficult to be trusting: others need to prove themselves first. Nines, on the other hand, are usually trusting and unquestioning, sunny and easy to get along with. They are optimistic and steady, offering support and non-threatening acceptance. If Sixes tend to see the exception and to focus on complications, Nines tend to see the general and to focus on what will work without problems. This couple gets along well, greasing each other's wheels and adding just enough gas to the mix to keep them moving forward together. Change, when it comes, is slow and methodical. Both tend to see themselves as simple, regular people and do not feel special or exempt in any way. Both bolster the other's confidence through their solidarity with each other. They are generous with each other and do not crowd the other or make special demands. When they find a relationship such as this, it usually feels like they have found what their heart has been seeking and their dream has come true.

Potential Trouble Spots or Issues

Since Sixes and Nines find it very difficult to say what is actually

on their minds (and what they really want for themselves), there is

a great tendency in this relationship to clam up, to be silently stubborn

and defensive, and to make the other person guess what is going on.

If there is little motive to do so, the two parties will fall into

a stalemate that keeps the other at arm's distance, yet close enough

so that the other will not drift away. They may also begin to have

health problems or other nonspecific complaints about themselves that

seeks to bind the couple in cords of concern and guilt. Psychological

or physical problems help to insure that the other person will continue

to be there. Moreover, while these two types fulfill social roles very well, they both tend to disappear in their roles too completely for their own good. Sixes are

frequently burdened by guilt feelings and doggedly do whatever they

think they must do to keep their job or their security in place. They

try to make sure that they have covered the bases so that no one will

be angry at them for failing in their responsibility. Nines also

fulfill roles, but these usually have to do with mediating between

people to keep them together in some way. They accommodate themselves

and go along with what others need even as their own stress grows.

Another potential problem is that both types love the familiar and dislike change. The feeling is that familiarity equals security, which is

reinforced by the conviction that they must not rock the boat. Both

types will tend to put off confrontations until they are pushed to the

limit, although Sixes have a shorter fuse concerning their anger. They

will either give up on the Nine, or there will be an explosion in which

a backlog of pent up hostilities will be said, often to the permanent

damage of the relationship.
